The Cause shares recording of closing set from final party: Listen

A recording of the final moments of London club The Cause has been released.

Launched back in 2018, the grassroots arts and event space – which initially announced its impending closure in September last year – bid farewell with an unforgettable night on New Year’s Day at their home on Ashley Road.

Following a final series of parties, the 400-capacity, Tottenham-based warehouse nightclub bowed out with a mini-festival, Goodbye Sweetheat.

Now, organisers have shared a three-hour recording of the final set at the club on New Year’s Day night, courtesy of Kiwi and Silverlining.

“[It was] an emotional send off soundtracked by the fine selectors Kiwi and Silverlining that sent our historical cage room into a state bittersweet euphoria,” wrote organisers on The Cause’s Soundcloud page. When all was said and done, only love was left behind. Beats were pumped, arms were waved, sweat was dripped, and tears were shed. We are still lost for words over the emotional scenes witnessed in this set.”

“Ashley Road may be done but the party ain’t over… We will return x”

Stream the final set below.

From the outset, the team behind The Cause said it was always due to be a temporary project owing to regeneration and property development going on around the venue. Its closure marks the final chapter in its story at Ashley Road, which saw the owners battle with council licensing issues – the club was forced to close temporarily due to planned property development in late 2019, but was able to eventually continue.
