Teletech launches drug safety campaign ahead of 2024 festival

Teletech has launched a drug safety campaign ahead of its 2024 festival, which runs this weekend, Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th August, at Manchester’s BEC Warehouse. 

The hard techno crew have shared a new video to social media channels. The Teletech Drug Information Conference features event co-founders, Anton Stevens and Tom Shenton, alongside festival headliners Rebekah (pictured) and Azyr.

The film has been released following the death of a 20-year-old man who was taken ill at a previous event held by the promoters at Hidden, Manchester, in June. 

The clip features advice based on up-to-date data from UK harm reduction charity, The Loop, which has just launched a new MDMA risk-reduction course for those working in industries where it is likely people will consume illegal substances.

Among other factors, the Teletech clip includes warnings about high strength ecstasy returning to Britain, and advises the weight of a tablet often indicates its potency. Testing elsewhere in Manchester’s for June’s Parklife festival confirmed large quantities of MDMA had been sold in some pills locally, and it’s likely these could still be in circulation. Experts have also cautioned that impurities are on the rise, increasing risk to human health, and reiterated the dangers of mixing drugs with alcohol. 

“Levels of MDMA in pills now have gone back to pre-pandemic times,” said Rebekah. “Our friends over at The Loop have said the best option is not to take pills, but other than that, take a quarter and sip water.” 

“The Teletech community is extremely important to us, we want to make sure you come here, have a good time, but most importantly, get home safely,” said Shenton. “Drugs have been a huge part of rave culture for the past 40 years, across the UK and beyond, so we need to talk about drugs. To promote safety, we’re moving to a much needed approach of education and sensible advice.”
