IKLECTIK electronic music and arts venue reopening in new Peckham space
London experimental music and arts venue IKLECTIK is set to reopen at a new site in Peckham.
Sharing the news on Instagram, the team revealed that, after being forced to leave their former home in Waterloo in 2023, they’ll now be setting up shop in Peckham Levels on Rye Lane. A free launch event will take place on Sunday, 26th October.
“After having lost our first home, where for more than a decade we championed experimental music, performance, and socially engaged art in London, IKLECTIK is stepping into an exciting new phase,” they wrote. “Thanks to the support from the Trampery, from October 2025, we’ll be taking over the gig space at Peckham Levels for a 13-month residency project, transforming it into a year-round hub for live experimental music, cross-disciplinary performance, and community engagement.
“Over the coming months, we’ll be building our programme, growing our team, and preparing a powerful opening season.”
The news comes two years after the venue announced that it was facing imminent eviction from its Old Paradise Yard premises due to redevelopment. The development in question involved demolishing the site IKLECTIK shared with a number of other small businesses, and replacing them with five towering office blocks.
After initially being told they would have until January 2024 to operate, the venue was later told that Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation (a £1bn health fund, not the NHS Trust) were refusing to renew their lease and that they were expected to leave by Christmas.
The venue had previously gathered 50,000 supporters to help them lobby the Secretary of State Michael Gove to halt development plans and consider calling for a full public enquiry. However, it was made clear to them that even if an enquiry was launched, it could take around 18 months before an outcome is reached. They were notified of the lease’s imminent expiry soon after.
Following their eviction, the IKLECTIK crew continued to host events, platforming 200 artists across 32 events in eight countries. Artists who’ve played IKLECTIK in the past include Manuka Honey, GAIKA, Lighght, Jennifer Walton, Nexciya and upsammy.
Speaking around the launch of their new space in Peckham, the IKLEKTIK team wrote: “At a time when grassroots venues are being cut, closed, and pushed to the margins, we remain committed to creating a place for counterculture, risk-taking, and radical imagination. This new hub will bring together underground culture, emerging voices, and more renowned artists to collaborate, experiment, and reimagine the future.”
