FUTURE DRUM CIRCLE – THE PARK

FUTURE DRUM CIRCLE – THE PARK

You could write dissertations on the parallels between jazz and techno, genres pioneered by African-American artists in the early and later parts of the 20th century. But while jazz thrives on improvisation, techno is built around the strict 4/4. ‘THE PARK’ bridges this divide across six live, largely improvised freeform recordings by FUTURE DRUM CIRCLE, rooting techno in a broader spectrum of Black expression. Interlocking rhythms on the nine-minute ‘This Is Future Drum Circle’ exemplify the thesis: the full-toned low-ends of live percussion colliding with the motorik pulse of machines. And the result is stunning — unworldly symphonies generated in the moment, unfolding according to their own inner logic.
