Stormzy is set to host a Christmas party for Croydon residents.
Three months on from confirming plans to extend his scholarship initiative for Black students at Cambridge University, the MC’s charity #Merky Foundation have announced the festive bash for the South London borough on Friday, 3rd December.
Set for Fairfield Halls, the press release for the event reads: “It is a chance for the Croydon community to enjoy a day out and have a chance to win some very special prizes. The party, founded by an abundance of generous donors, will include a plethora of activities including games, performances, tombola, workshops and more with Stormzy also being present to join in the fun.”
Limited to four per household, tickets for the event are available to Croydon residents free of charge. The event will be split into two time slots throughout the day, with the first half for those 4 years of age and above, and the second half for those 10 years of age and above.
As part of the event, Stormzy’s #Merky Books initiative is donating 500 copies of their first, Stormzy-curated children’s book, Superheroes: Inspiring Stories of Secret Strength. The book’s illustrator Denzell Dankwah will also host drawing workshops for children throughout the day, and its author, performance poet Sophia Thakur will be performing during the evening event.
#Merky Books has also been supportive of a number of young writers from underrepresented communities since its launch in 2018, with a second edition of its annual New Writers’ Prize having been announced late last year.
