R3 Soundsystem announces fundraising rave for Ukraine in London
R3 Soundsystem, the London-based protest and music collective responsible for a number of mobile music-based protest events in recent years, is putting on a fundraising rave in aid of organisations supporting Ukraine amid Russia’s invasion of the country.
Scheduled for Friday, 11th March, the event will take place at South London club Venue MOT, across two rooms. It will run from 10pm until 7am, and feature sets from the likes of The Blessed Madonna, Midland, Craig Richards, Róisín Murphy, Hot Chip (DJ Set), Dance System and DJ Paulette, among others. Queer party crews Chapter 10 and Adonis will also be involved, with their residents set to play too.
“As part of the fundraiser, we will raise crucial funds destined for aid, refugee assistance and evacuations,” R3 Soundsystem said of the event. The money raised, the group added, will go to Bündnis Entwicklung Hilft (Alliance for Development Help), Fulcrum UA and All Out “to provide humanitarian help on the ground, and support people in Ukraine and refugees in the neighbouring countries that they are fleeing to”.
“To see Putin crush the wonderful city of Kyiv and destroy the incredible cultural explosion was underway breaks my heart and makes my blood boil in equal measure,” R3 founder Gideön told DJ Mag. “Music is our weapon and R3 Soundsystem will continue to use it as a force for both international solidarity and political change.”
