Premiere: Obeka ‘Ya Betta ft. Bryte’

Obeka will release a new EP, ‘Commence’, later this week on Manchester label Left, Right & Centre. Have an exclusive first listen to ‘Ya Betta’, featuring Bryte, below.

Tapping into his passion for global sound-system culture, the Bermuda-born, Manchester-based producer serves up six fiery club workouts. ‘Commence’, which is out in digital and physical formats from 26th July, features percussive sounds from around the world like gqomAfro house and UK funky folded into Obeka’s dancefloor-focused formula, which he’s been distilling across recent releases for Tempo Shift and Basy Tropikalne.

‘Badman Silo’ kickstarts the tension-building with a meld of organic percussive sounds, diced-up vocals and acrobatic FX, ahead of the rowdy roller ‘Ya Betta’, featuring the call-and-response tones of Ghanaian MC Bryte. B-side highlights include the dark and deadly ‘Agojie’, alive with otherworldly chirping melodies and heavy bass plumes, and a dancefloor destroying refit of ‘Ya Betta’ from Colombian trailblazer Bitter Babe.

When he’s not cooking up percussive heat, Obeka is one-third of the Me Gusta Collective, an event series championing global sounds in Manchester and bringing world-renowned DJs, producers, and musicians to the UK for truly unique showcases.

‘Commence’ is out 26th July via Left, Right & Centre. Pre-order the EP here, and have an exclusive first listen to ‘Ya Betta ft. Bryte’ below.
