Posthumous SOPHIE project teased in cryptic YouTube video

A new YouTube video has been shared to SOPHIE’s YouTube channel, sparking rumours of an incoming posthumous project from the late experimental pop visionary.

Shared today, 21st June, the video teases something taking place on Monday 24th June at 6:30 PM BST/1:30 PM EDT under the tag @MSMSMSM_Forever. Although no other information has been made available at the time of writing, several new social media accounts – on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and X – have also been created under the same tag.

In June 2021, SOPHIE’s brother and tour manager Ben Long was quoted in Billboard speaking about the late star’s catalogue: “There is a lot of music in the vaults, absolutely,” he said. “There are literally hundreds of tracks.”

Adding that the main priority in putting out SOPHIE’s unreleased music is “doing right by SOPHIE”, he said that their family intends to release “as much music as makes sense”.

SOPHIE died in January 2021 in a tragic accident in Athens, Greece. Last year, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) officially named an asteroid after SOPHIE.

In a statement, the IAU said: “SOPHIE was known as an electronic music pioneer whose futuristic style changed the landscape of pop music in the early 21st century.”
