Peggy Gou announces debut album, ‘I Hear You’, shares single: Listen

Peggy Gou has announced details of her debut album, ‘I Hear You’. Listen to the first single, ‘1+1=11’, below.

Set for release on 7th June via XL Recordings, the 10 track LP is described as a culmination of the South Korean DJ and producer’s career to date. “’I Hear You’ is more than just my debut album. It embodies countless hours of dedication in my journey to create something timeless, and is a testament to the power of listening, to ourselves and to each other,” Gou said of the release.

The record will feature both her Lenny Kravitz collaboration, ‘I Believe In Love Again‘, and 2023’s chart-topping ‘(It Goes Like) Nanana‘.

‘1+1=11’ is accompanied by a video, directed by and starring Icelandic-Danish artist and Gou’s close friend, Olafur Eliasson. He also designed the “ring of ears” on the album artwork (pictured above). An edited version of his poem, ‘Your Planet Seen From Within’, appears on the opening track, ‘Your Art’.

“Sculpture and dance are both non-verbal languages. Sometimes in order to communicate, you simply have to move,” said Eliasson. “That’s what happened when I first met Peggy. We were having lunch, talking about our shared interests in psychosonics, rhythm, and movement, and to show her the moves I was talking about, I stood up in the restaurant to dance.

“I was thrilled that she later asked me to dance on video for one of her upcoming releases and to develop the visual language for it,” he continued. “By bringing together dance – embodied exploration of space – with colourful shadows, lights, and mirrors, I was able to bring some of the key interests that have long shaped my art into an entirely new context. Working together has been rewarding and a lot of fun.”

In 2023, Peggy Gou was voted the World’s No.1 House DJ as part of DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs poll, coming in at No.9 in the overall list.
