New compilation, ‘The Sacred Rage’, to raise funds for Beirut relief initiatives following devastating explosion

News

Berlin-based Lebanese artist, curator and Morphine Records’ boss Rabih Beaini has released a new compilation in aid of charity initiatives in Beirut responding to last week’s devastating explosion.

The compilation, titled ‘The Sacred Rage’, features contributions from the likes of Donato Dozzy, The Bug, Rashad Becker and Natalie Beridze. All funds from the 12-track release will go toward on-the-ground initiatives providing food, medicine and structural supplies to those who need it most in the aftermath of the explosion, which occurred in Beirut on 4th August, killing at least 220 people and injuring thousands more.

The release of the compilation follows an open call for contributions made by Rabih Beaini last week. On Bandcamp’s fee-free day last Friday (7th August)  Beaini’s Morphine Records donated 100% of proceeds from label sales to NGOs working in Beirut, including the Food Heritage Foundation, Matbakh el Balad and the Lebanese Red Cross.

The explosion in Beirut was caused by the ignition of 2,700 tonnes of ammonium nitrate that had been stored in a warehouse near the city’s docks for six years. It is estimated that 250,000 people have been left homeless as a result of the disaster.

Electronic artist Hiro Kone has also compiled a Google Doc outlining different ways you can support those affected by the disaster in Beirut, as well as providing a directory of artists in the city who are directing proceeds from purchased music to the relief effort, or who are in need of help themselves.
