Mike Dunn relaunches influential Dance Mutha label after three decades

Legendary Chicago house artist Mike Dunn has announced he will relaunch his influential Danca Mutha imprint after three decades.

Founded by Dunn back in 1988, the label released music by artists such as MD Connection, Gershon Jackson, and I-ROC-T. Dunn also co-founded seminal acid labels Warehouse Records and Muzique Records, which played a pivotal role in the development of Chicago and acid house.

According to the press release, the relaunch of Dance Mutha was inspired in part by Dunn’s discovery of a collection of ‘lost’ unreleased masters from the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. Some of these tracks will be featured in a new three-track EP titled ‘Tracks From The Beginning Vol.1’, scheduled for release on Dance Mutha 5th July.

The label is also expected to release new tracks from Mike Dunn, along with announcements of releases from other notable figures in house, techno, and acid music, which have yet to be disclosed.

DJ Mag spoke to Dunn, alongside many other key figures in the Chicago scene at the ARC Music Festival last year. You can read more about the event and the city’s enduring house culture here.
