Jlin’s new project uses samples from Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum

Jlin has used samples from Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum for a new multi-dimensional project.

Out on Friday (21st March), the ‘B12’ project highlights the US producer and composer’s “connection to both maths and music” and will be released as a multi-dimensional package also comprising a short film and interview. The original sounds will also be included.

Among the samples taken from the Sounding the Collection at the museum are ‘Matchbox No 55 Mercury police car’, ‘Irish harp made by James McFall’, ‘Talking Robot by Yonezawa’, and ‘Wire-tying machine used by Wing Sang & Co Ltd.’

The full multimedia package will be available via the Metalabel platform for $1.

Last year, Jlin released her ‘Akoma’ album, which featured appearances from Björk, Kronos Quartet and Philip Glass. The LP followed the release of her Pulitzer-shortlisted 2023 mini-album, ‘Perspective’, which marked her first solo venture since 2021’s ‘Embryo’ EP.

Back in 2022, DJ Mag spoke to the Indiana artist to discuss her ‘Embryo’ EP. You can revisit the full feature here.
