Flying Lotus shares track from sci-fi horror film Ash soundtrack, ‘Oxygene’: Listen
Flying Lotus has shared a track from his forthcoming soundtrack for sci-fi horror film, Ash.
Titled ‘Oxygene’, the atmospheric cut is the first song to be shared from the 27-track OST, which is set to land ahead of the film’s release via Milan Records (19th March).
Ash, out in cinemas in the US on 21st March, centres on a space captain who wakes up alone to find her crew murdered. The film, based on a play, is also directed by Flying Lotus, and stars Eliza González and Aaron Paul. Flying Lotus also appears in the role of a character named Davis.
“Working on the score was both inspiring and challenging,” Flying Lotus said in a press release. “I spent most of the time writing it during the final post-production and color grading when I was in New Zealand, running back and forth to different rooms to check on progress and going into my lil cave there and working with just my laptop and controller.
“I drew inspiration from composers who primarily just used synths to create soundtracks, like John Carpenter, Akira Yamaoka, Angelo Badalamenti, and Vangelis. It was a great time trying to find a distinctive sound for the movie that also felt fresh and unique for me to explore.”

This is FlyLo’s second directorial turn following 2017 body horror Kuso. He also soundtracked LeSean Thomas and Takeshi Satou’s Yasuke, a six-part anime series released via Netflix in 2022.
Also in 2022, he co-wrote and directed the soundtrack for a segment in the horror anthology ‘V/H/S/99’, which was streaming on Shudder, and produced the main title theme for the Apple Original documentary series, ‘They Call Me Magic’.
