De La Soul announce ‘The Grind Date’ 20th anniversary vinyl featuring MF DOOM, J Dilla, more

De La Soul are reissuing their seventh studio album, ‘The Grind Date’, to mark its 20th anniversary.

Set for release on 21st March, the updated release will include the full album and six bonus tracks. Among those bonus cuts are two never-heard-before songs from the original studio sessions for the album, while there are also a number of instrumental versions of tracks from the album featured.

The reissue will be released across vinyl, CD and digital formats. Vinyl and CD editions can be pre-ordered here.

“With the 20th Anniversary of ‘The Grind Date’, we just feel blessed in knowing that we put together this album that, right now, with its re-release feels fresh; it doesn’t feel outdated, the lyrics feel relevant,” said De La Soul’s Posdnous in a statement. “It really feels good to know that with the re-release of this album it takes myself and Mase back to knowing that this album was the first album done outside of our Tommy Boy relationship and it stands the test of time alongside that catalogue, so yeah it’s a blessing.”

To mark the announcement of the reissue, the group have shared one of the two previously unheard bonus cuts, the Choklate-featuring ‘Bigger’, which you can listen to below.

Originally released in 2004, ‘The Grind Date’ features the likes of MF DOOM, Ghostface Killah, Sean Paul and Flava Flav. J Dilla also contributed production to the record.

The group are also soon set to reissue a rare 1994 EP featuring A Tribe Called Quest.
