Dance music prize draw for Ukrainian aid announced

A dance music prize draw has been announced to raise money to help those feeling and trapped in Ukraine following the country’s invasion by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The campaign has been created by UK music journalist and DJ Harold Heath, and offers a wealth of electronic music and rave-related prizes to the winner, who will be announced at this weekend’s Drop Beats Not Bombs event at The Arch, Brighton, one of many fundraisers currently forming part of the international club scene’s response to the ongoing crisis.

Those keen to take part must make a £5 donation, which gives them one entry into the competition. There is no limit to how many entries an individual can buy. Once the draw is complete, the lucky winner will be notified after 13th March, and can expect to receive various dance music related prizes including books, art, records and more. See the full list of prizes below and get full details of how to take part on the official JustGiving page.

Russian military operations across Ukraine began in the early hours of 24th February, and it is now believed around 1.7million people have fled to neighbouring countries, primarily in Eastern and Central Europe. Since the war began, the global dance music community has rallied around those caught in the conflict, with a number of streams and real world events announced to help raise awareness and funds for humanitarian and defensive causes.

On Friday, DJ Mag announced its own part in this, partnering with London venue Night Tales for a gathering on 1st April, featuring DJ Minx, Elder Island, Erol Alkan, Kiwi, Raw Silk, Theo Kottis, and many more. An open-source spreadsheet is also in operation, detailing how people can offer support directly to Ukrainian artists, musicians, and record labels.
