Propellerhead announces Reason 13

Propellerhead has announced Reason 13, the latest update to the long-running and foundational music-making software.

The latest version upgrades the software’s sequencer, redesigning it for a “faster workflow” and navigation. That speed has been a focus elsewhere too, with a new Edit Area, improved zooming and other workflow tweaks speeding up your Reason experience.

Another workflow tweak comes in the form of a new and improved Browser, where all your patches, samples and loops now live in one place. Categories and tags now make it quicker to find what you’re looking for, and explore over two decades of sound design from the Reason archives. There are also over 1,000 new samples, patches and loops to play with.

“We are thrilled to introduce Reason 13 to the world,” said product manager at Reason Studios, Mattias Häggström Gerdt. “Our goal with this upgrade was to improve Reason’s unique music-making workflow. Whether it’s your main DAW or go-to plugin, Reason 13 adds a ton of features — all designed to get you to your sound faster.”

It wouldn’t be a Reason update without some new Racks, the backbone of the Reason ecosystem. Version 13 brings with it five extras including a new synth, called Polytone Dual-Layer Synthesizer, a delay unit, called Ripley Space Delay, and three new tools for sidechaining, stereo widening and gain staging and panning.

First released over 20 years ago, Reason was one of the first pieces of software to experiment with hardware cloning in plugins, their famous ReBirth RB-338 mimicking the sound and style of the 303 and the 808. Two decades on, Reason is still a firm favourite among electronic music producers for its flexible routing, sequencing and sound design options.

Reason is currently looking for beta testers for the new update, and you can sign up, and find out more about Reason 13, on the Propellerhead website.
