Energy 52’s 31-year-old trance classic, ‘Café Del Mar’, has been remixed by Orbital and Kompakt Records boss Michael Mayer.

Due to land on Superstition Records, the double-A package sees the 1993 anthem, written by Kid Paul and Cosmic Baby, taken in new directions. In turn, the two remixes also contrast each other, respectively rooted in euphoric breakbeat and hypnotic acid.

Often considered one of the defining European dance music tracks of all time, ‘Café del Mar’, which takes its name from one of Ibiza’s best-loved sunset venues, has a storied history of remixes. Energy 52’s own 1998 update remains one of the best remembered, but more recent years have seen the likes of Paul van Dyk, Ricardo Villalobos, deadmau5, and Tale of Us take on additional production duties. The latter coincided with the 25th anniversary of the original.
