fabric announces fundraiser event for lighting tech Chris Binks following heart attack
fabric is hosting a fundraiser, A Dance For Chris, this weekend in support of their lighting tech, Chris Binks, who is recovering from a heart attack.
The event takes place on Sunday, 12th October, running from 3 PM until midnight, and will feature sets from Dr Banana, Enzo Siragusa, Georgia, Laidlaw and Jacob Husley.
Binks, who worked with the Farringdon club since it first opened in 1999 and stayed with them for 18 years, suffered a heart attack while traveling in Budapest. After being without oxygen for 30 minutes, he sustained “severe brain damage” and fell into a coma.
Binks is now showing “further signs of recovery”, and will be flown back to the UK today on a specialist plane after spending two weeks in a hospital in Hungary.
In a statement, fabric explained that “finding a UK hospital willing to admit [Binks] has been incredibly difficult. Tragically, his travel insurance had lapsed, leaving his immediate family facing an astronomical £40,000 medical bill in Budapest, in addition to £30,000 for the specialist transport to bring him home.”
All proceeds from A Dance For Chris will go towards Binks’ medical bills, and helping to cover specialist transport to return him home to London. A GoFundMe is open for donations, and has raised nearly £19,000.
“Every ticket, every donation, and every dance… will make a real difference in getting him back to the people and places he loves,” fabric’s statement concluded.
