Nipsey Hussle posthumously honoured with star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

The late Nipsey Hussle has been honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in his hometown of Los Angeles.

The Crenshaw rapper, who was fatally shot in March 2019 at age 33, was posthumously honoured in the star-unveiling ceremony on Hollywood Boulevard on Sunday 15th August, which would have been his 37th birthday, the LA Times reports. The City of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce recognised Nipsey Hussle’s achievements in music and charity and declared 15th August to be celebrated as Nipsey Hussle Day in LA.

Hussle’s widow Lauren London, their son Cross, father Dawit Asghedom and grandmother Margaret Boutte were among those present at the ceremony, set outside local music landmark, Amoeba Music.

“Nip would’ve been honoured by this moment,” London said. “I think he would want everyone to remember that you can’t get to what’s possible unless you commit to moving forward. That doesn’t mean forgetting where you come from, but it requires acknowledging the reality you were born into and the power you have to change that reality for the better.

“So whenever you’re in the City of Angels and you see this star, I hope it encourages you to break away from whatever might be holding you back, and for you to run your marathon until God says that it’s finished,” London said.

Last month, Eric Holder Jr. was found guilty of the 2019 murder of Nipsey Hussle outside his Marathon Clothing store in LA. The LA Times says it is likely he will spend the rest of his life in prison.

On Nipsey Hussle’s would-be 35th birthday in August 2020, Snoop Dogg released a tribute track titled ‘Nipsey Blue’.
