Nightmares On Wax unveils mini-documentary ‘Carboot Soul Live At The Royal Festival Hall
Nightmares on Wax is thrilled to unveil the trailer for the mini-documentary Carboot Soul Live at The Royal Festival Hall, ahead of its full release on August 22nd, 2024. Directed by Pedro Takahashi and produced by Friend London alongside Fred Qvortrup, this documentary offers an intimate look at the creative journey behind the genre-defining, iconic album and two sold-out performances, at London’s Royal Festival Hall on April 19th, 2024.
As Warp Records’ longest-serving artist, Nightmares on Wax, also known as George Evelyn, has consistently been at the forefront of contemporary music, seamlessly blending electronica, jazz, hip-hop, techno, dub, funk, and soul. The album Carboot Soul remains a cornerstone of N.O.W.’s genre-defining work, captivating audiences for 25 years with its timeless sound. This masterpiece features unforgettable contributions from musicians such as Chris Dawkin, Hamlet Luton, Bruce Wood, Robin Taylor-Firth, and Sarah Winton.
The performances at the Royal Festival Hall celebrated the 25th anniversary of this iconic album, with Nightmares on Wax collaborating with The Outlook Orchestra to create an entirely new rendition of Carboot Soul, crafted exclusively for that night. The project brought together the visionary talents of Evelyn, Musical Director and award-winning composer Tommy Evans, and Matt Roberts, who oversaw orchestration and arrangement.
The trailer provides a glimpse into the creativity and innovation behind this unique event, showcasing the reimagining of a classic album for a live audience. The full documentary, releasing on August 22nd, will explore the artistry, collaboration, and lasting impact of Carboot Soul.
