T.H.E Interview – Max Dean
In the dynamic realm of electronic music, few artists emerge with a vision that resonates across the dance floors and charts alike.
Max Dean, a London-bred talent, is a name that’s rapidly climbing the ranks in the House music scene. His journey, marked by impressive Beatport chart-toppers and a relentless passion for the genre, culminates in his latest venture, neXup recz.
Returning from a vibrant season in Ibiza, Dean sat in his neXup HQ studio, reflecting on his journey and future plans. “I’ve not long landed back in the UK,” he shared, his excitement palpable. This enthusiasm is not just about where he’s been but also about where he’s headed.
October marks a pivotal moment for Dean with the launch of his label, neXup recz. The significance of this move can’t be overstated. “Kickstarting the label with a VA is something I’ve envisioned for a while,” he explained. Dean’s goal is not just to release music but to cultivate a community, a platform for the next generation of DJs and ravers. His ‘NX-GEN’ VA release, which achieved #1 spots on Beatport in several genres, is just the beginning of this vision.
Dean’s recent collaboration ‘KILLERZ’ is another testament to his musical prowess, echoing his ability to create chart-topping hits. But this track holds a deeper meaning for him. “WHEATS was the first DJ to ever help me when I was younger,” Dean recounted. The collaboration marked a full-circle moment, a realization of growth and mutual respect in the industry.
Looking ahead, Dean is not just content with personal success; he has his sights set on elevating the dance music scene. He spoke of working on larger shows in London and a neXup tour in 2024. His criteria for music and artists is clear: “good forward-thinking music & next-generation artists!”
But it’s not just about the music. Dean sees room for evolution in the industry. “Fresh lineups from promoters & more open ears from ravers to listen to new DJs,” he suggested, pointing towards a more inclusive and dynamic future for dance music.
His upcoming projects include a 3-track EP on Richy Ahmed’s label FourThiryTwo and a remix on Darius Syrossian’s label MOXY. Additionally, he hinted at tours in the USA and Australia, signaling his expanding global footprint.
For aspiring artists looking up to him, Dean had a powerful message: “Be fearless; take every opportunity you can. Network to the fullest. Show your face at your favourite parties. Send your music to your favourite DJs. Mindset – glass half full. If you like it, then do it. Don’t let other people’s negative mentality affect your possibilities to achieve greatness. Favour fortunes the brave. He who dares wins!”
Max Dean’s story is more than just one of success; it’s a narrative of passion, vision, and relentless pursuit of innovation. As he continues to shape his legacy in House music, it’s clear that he’s not just riding the wave of the genre — he’s actively sculpting its future.
