Wretch 32 returns with new single featuring Little Simz and Benjamin A.D, ‘Black and British’: Listen

Wretch 32 has released a new single, ‘Black and British’, featuring Little Simz and Benjamin A.D. You can listen to the track below.

Timed within Black History Month, the track — out today (25th October) — speaks to the collective experiences of marginalisation, heritage, and pride from the perspective of the North London rapper. ‘Black and British’ also features a sample of Wretch’s grandmother, Beverley Scott, speaking as part of the 1988 documentary about the Broadwater Farm estate, Scenes From The Farm.

Explaining his inspiration for the track, Wretch said that “sometimes you’re a fly on the wall in your own house, or an ear to the wall for your neighbours—both views represent the Black British experience.”

Little Simz added that she was “so honoured to be able to join Wretch on this song along with Benjamin A.D”, noting that “Wretch’s storytelling is unmatched and this song is a true representation of what it means to be black and British.”

“I think Wretch summed it up perfectly,” Benjamin A.D continued. “The struggles vs the intention. The craziest thing is the song has been there for a while and now that it’s being released, it feels more relevant than ever…”

The track is accompanied by a Meeks and Frost-directed music video, shot at the V&A East, a new branch of the V&A Museum set to open in 2025. The video features archival photos of Black British culture interspersed with vignettes of household scenes to “paint a rich, multifaceted portrait of Black British life”.

A teaser campaign for the single launched earlier this week featuring cameos from Millionz, Bashy, Chuckie, Jordy, Esther, Viddal Riley, Dina Asher-Smith, Jeanette Kwakye, and many others.
