Woman dies after falling ill at Tomorrowland
A 35-year-old Canadian woman has died in hospital after falling ill on the opening day of Tomorrowland in Belgium on Friday (18th July). The Antwerp prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into the cause of death.
The woman reportedly received first aid at the event, before being taken to Antwerp University Hospital, where she later died.
In a statement, authorities in Antwerp said, “The prosecutor’s office immediately launched an investigation. Initial findings indicate strong evidence of a drug-related death. An autopsy and a thorough toxicology examination will provide definitive answers.”
In a statement given to Brussels Morning, Tomorrowland spokesperson Debby Wilmsen said, “Our condolences go out to her family and friends.”
The tragedy comes after the festival’s main stage was completely destroyed by a fire on Wednesday, less than 48 hours before the event was due to begin.
