Classic Music Company celebrates 30th anniversary with coffee table book and vinyl boxset

Classic Music Company, the much-loved London house label founded by Luke Solomon and Derrick Carter, has revealed its plans to mark its 30th anniversary.

The label will publish a coffee table book, as well as a three-part series of vinyl releases collecting modern classics and iconic singles from the back catalogue. Both will be released in late October.

The book is described in a press release as “an oral history of three decades of the iconic label”, going in-depth on its sleeve designs and artwork, as well as the many releases that have come out via Classic Music Company. It’s been assembled by David Windmill, one of Classic’s original in-house designers, and features an introduction by journalist Claire Hughes in addition to a foreword by Honey Dijon. Label co-founder Luke Solomon also reflects on the imprint’s 30-year history in the afterword.

Contributors include the artists who helped shape the sound of the label, such as Rob Mełło, Roy Davis Jr., Isoleè, Pepe Bradock, Doc Martin, Tiefschwarz, Chez Damier and Radio Slave. Newer members of the label family – such as Folamour, Alinka and Floorplan – also feature.

Iconic tracks by the likes of Matthew Herbert, Blaze, Isolée, Gemini, Folamour, Honey Dijon and many others feature across the three vinyl records.

In a statement, Solomon said: “Classic means family to me – it’s a collective of like-minded sonic travellers that aren’t willing to conform to mainstream thought. A band of misfits at odds with what is conceived as normality.

“I’m not one for big celebratory moments, but 30 years felt like a significant milestone, and there’s always been a desire to capture what we’ve done in picture form – creating this book was an opportunity to do just that. The vinyl series to accompany provides a soundtrack for this trip down memory lane.”

There will additionally be a 30th anniversary party in London, taking place on 5th December. Full line-up and other information for the event are yet to be announced, but you can sign up for access to tickets here.

Last year, Classic Music Company released an album from Girls Of The Internet, ‘When I Was Lost I Found Myself’.
