A new documentary on the power of dance music, Where Love Lives, is out this week.

Global party brand Glitterbox, founded by Defected boss Simon Dunmore in 2014, is set to release its debut documentary on Thursday (18th) this week, celebrating “music’s enduring power to manifest diverse and inclusive community, and the power of that community to accept and embrace, to liberate, even to save lives.”

Filmed over the course of 18 months in various New York, Ibiza, Paris and London locations, through the stories of Glitterbox’s artists, dancers and queer performers, Where Love Lives explores the importance of subculture spaces, the impact of the AIDs crisis on the queer clubbing community, how moving to London saved members of the LGBTQ+ community, and the importance of nightclubs serving as safe spaces and ‘homes’.

Speaking about the film, director Brilliams said: “I’ve always been fascinated by the positive effects of music and the communities that grow around it. Since the inception of dance music, dancefloors have been rich ground for community, and an incredible representation of cultural identity and self-expression. Everyone has their own journey to the dancefloor and their own voyage of self-expression to navigate. Through the stories of the kaleidoscopic family of performers that give Glitterbox its heart and soul, we set out to show why those journeys are so incredibly important.”

The film features contributions from American actor and performer Billy Porter, DJ/producer Honey Dijon, Kathy Sledge, dancer Lucy Fizz, Studio 54 and Paradise Garage icon, John ‘Jellybean’ Benitez, and many more.

Where Love Lives will be premiered via YouTube on Thursday 18th March at 4PM GMT. Watch it here.
