Wales’ new climate change minister Julie James is the sister of Aphex Twin, she’s revealed in a recent interview.

Having been appointed to the role in May, James recently sat down for an interview with the BBC where she discussed her work and also revealed what she thought of her brother’s music. When asked, James says she is “very much” a fan of the music her brother has released as Aphex Twin, though clarifies that is she isn’t quite into “all of it”.

“Some of it’s, I think Charlie Brooker once said, it was like being inside a CT scanner for an hour,” she said. “But some of it is glorious. He writes beautiful jazz. He did a collaboration with Phillip Glass, which is glorious, and a lot of his ambient stuff is lovely.”

Julie James also revealed that her brother visits “all the time” and said that she and her family are “very proud of him”. She also revealed that she gifted a vinyl copy of his 2018 ‘Collapse’ EP to fellow Welsh politician Carwyn Jones, when he stood down as first minister and Welsh Labour leader in December 2018.

Earlier this year, Aphex Twin dropped a surprise NFT auction, in collaboration with artist Weirdcore.

Late last year, he teamed up with Novation for a new hardware synth, the AFX Station.
