Tomu DJ shares new single, ‘Haters can be mad’

Tomu DJ has shared a new single. You can listen to ‘Haters Can Be Mad’ below.

Taken from her forthcoming album, ‘I Want To Be‘, which will arrive digitally and on 12″ vinyl on 31st August via Cone Shape Top, the track follows lead single ‘The Truth’.

Blending elements of genres including ambient and footwork, Tomu DJ’s sound– often characterised as “broken” – can be partly attributed to a near-death car crash that affected the producer’s sense of rhythm half a decade ago. According to press materials, it was this experience that led to her developing a unique approach to rhythm, which can also be heard on celebrated records including ‘Half Moon Bay‘, ‘Feminista,’ and ‘Crazy Trip‘, capturing the attention of listeners through often off-kilter timings and drums.

‘I Want To Be’ deals with this in an album format, distilling the experience of splitting the past five years between New York City and the Bay Area, California, where Tomu DJ grew up. Issues such as ‘psychological scar tissue’ and wounds, and staying healthy in a sick society are also dealt with.
