Slikback announces Planet Mu album, ‘Attrition’

Slikback is putting out an album through Planet Mu, titled ‘Attrition’.

Featuring 11 tracks, it marks the Kenyan artist’s debut full-length release with the UK label having recently contributed a track to its 30th anniversary compilation, ‘Planet Mu 30’.

‘Attrition’ takes in elements of gqom, dubstep, techno, juke and drum & bass, as well as other experimental club music styles. Much of it was made while the artist was left waiting for a visa to be confirmed having recently relocated to Poland from his native Kenya.

With an unexpected pause in travel, he found himself working at a slower, more deliberate pace to piece together a full body of work for Planet Mu. “I was finally able to explore ideas to a point where I didn’t feel the need to change anything,” he said of the creative process.

He added: “I worked on the tracks back and forth, drastically transforming some from their original sketches. I wanted to create a journey within each track, like something alien emerging from emptiness – beauty from chaos.”

Listen to lead track ‘Taped’ below ahead of the record’s full release on Friday, 18th July.

Earlier this year, Slikback was the first artist to release on Tempa in nine years, with the label putting out his ‘Data’ EP.
