Technics announces SL-1200 turntable upgrade

Technics have announced a SL-1200 turntable upgrade.

The SL-1200GR2 is part of the brand’s “next generation” of direct drive turntables and is an update on the world-famous SL-1200/1210GR turntable. The GR2 promises an improved motor-drive circuit using Technics’ newly developed ΔΣ-Drive (Delta Sigma Drive) as well as noise cancelling. It will also be delivered in new sustainable cardboard packaging.

The Technics SL-1200GR2 (silver) and SL-12120GR2 (black) will be available from December 2023 for $2,199.99 / £1,799 / €1,999. Find out more here.

Earlier this year, Technics rolled out a new matte white finish for its SL-1500C model. “The new clean white tone underlines the SL-1500C’s pure and simplistic aesthetic, employing only the most necessary operational elements needed on a turntable,” Technics product manager, Frank Balzuweit said of the design.

Last month, Cwmbran DJ Huw Wackman — real name Miaer Lloyd — won Technics’ fabled DMC UK championship after 36 years of trying.
