Swedish House Mafia, Carl Cox, Café Del Mar, more locked for 70-hour Dance Weekend on Radio 1

Swedish House Mafia and Carl Cox are among the names locked for BBC Radio 1’s 70-hour Dance Weekend.

Taking place across the dates that Radio 1 usually heads to Ibiza for its Big Weekend, the marathon takeover is set to run from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th August, with over 20 genre-spanning DJs stepping up for sets on the air.

On Friday, the Dance Weekend will begin at 4am with Dance music all day, before ‘Around The World with Radio 1’, hosted by Pete Tong, Sarah Story and Danny Howard, presents sets from newcomers and mainstays in the form of Swedish House Mafia, Ewan McVicar, Andrea Oliva, THEMBA, Nina Kraviz and Vintage Culture. From midnight until 2am, there will also be an exclusive play of Yousef and Paul Woolford’s Essential Mix recorded live at elrow.

On Saturday, DJ Target and Jeremiah Asiamah will present the Radio 1 and 1Xtra Rave Up with music from Emerald, DJ EZ and Wilkinson, before Shadow Child, Diplo and Carl Cox all take to the airwaves for live and pre-recorded sets.

To wind things down after the hectic weekend, Sunday will present a chilled-out showcase, with a Café Del Mar Mix by Ken Fan, a chill mix from TSHA, and sets from the likes of Koreless. Closing Sunday night is BBC Introducing’s Jaguar presents Heidi with a 100% introducing mix, a live session from Poté, and Radio 1’s Residency hosted by Carl Cox and Carista.

Tune into BBC Radio 1’s Dance Weekend via BBC Sounds from 4AM on the 6th August.
