Site of New York’s iconic Pyramid Club to become new venue, Night Club 101

Plans are in place to open a new venue, Night Club 101, on the former site of New York’s historic Pyramid Club.

As Pitchfork reports, Billy Jones and Tom Moore, the core duo behind Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right venue, are working in partnership with Knitting Factory Entertainment to revive the iconic East Village spot for a new era of live music and DJ nights.

The Pyramid Club was a beacon in New York nightlife, the setting of some historic moments, notably for drag artists. RuPaul and Madonna both got early starts there, Nirvana and Red Hot Chili Peppers played their first NYC shows there, and everyone from Sonic Youth and Beastie Boys to Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat stepped through its hallowed doors.

Elaborating on the Pyramid Club’s place in NYC’s cultural history, Jones commented: “This space holds so much history, and we’re excited to pay homage to its incredible legacy of course. But at the same time, we always want to push the conversation forward—creating a space that feels alive, surprising, and refreshingly open to the experimentational play that makes NewYork City, New York City and the reason I moved here 23 years ago.”

Tom Moore added: “There is a cold water spring in the cellar, long since turned into a pipe that feeds the East River. Growing up trout fishing in America, this feels like a good omen. I only have one tattoo and it is of a trout.”

Night Club 101 officially opens in 2025, following a preview event with Pitchfork on 19th December featuring RP Boo, Dazegxd b2b Intimacy Simulator, Anysia Kym, DJ Ess, New York, and more.

Late last year, Jeffrey Garcia was brought in to lead the Office of Nightlife as NYC Mayor Eric Adams aims to “cut red tape for the nightlife industry“. Then, this summer, it was announced that New York City would reform its zoning laws, overturning antiquated dancing and club licensing restrictions.
