RZA shares video for new single, ‘Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theater’: Watch
RZA has shared the video for his new single, ‘Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theater’.
Best known as the de facto leader of iconic hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan, the New York rapper has collaborated with DJ Scratch on the forthcoming album of the same name.
Set for release on 4th March, the album – which features RZA sparring with his alter-ego Bobby Digital – is described as a love letter to the kung fu movies that aired each Saturday on local TV channels “when there were only 5 channels to choose from.”
Unveiled on 4th February, the title track was co-produced by RZA and Danny Hastings. Following a young boy’s immersion in a matinee movie, check out the single’s video below.
“Lyrically the hip-hop part of me had a chance to re-emerge during quarantine,” said RZA, speaking about working with DJ Scratch on the album. “Giving Scratch the reins as a producer and me taking the reins as an MC, that’s what frees me up creatively and lets me play more with lyrical gags and lyrical flows because I don’t have to be focused on everything.
“He (Scratch) delivered tracks that resonated and brought me back to a sound that I felt was missing. For me it was really natural for me to flow and write to these songs.”
Last month, a selection of new images of Wu-Tang Clan’s ‘Once Upon A Time In Shaolin’ were shared by the US government.
A couple of weeks later, it was revealed that RZA had filed a $2million lawsuit against multiple e-commerce stores believed to be selling fake band merchandise.
