Rony Seikaly releases debut album, ‘Moonwalk’: Listen

Former NBA star Rony Seikaly has released a new house album called ‘Moonwalk’.

Released on Seikaly’s own Stride Records, the 26-track LP features a sample and voicenote from pal Diddy on ‘Won’t Stop Now’, a sample of Michael Jordan on ‘The Last Dance’, and a collaboration with Venezuelan-Iranian artist Sasha on ‘Envidia’, “a warm, uplifting cut that oozes positivity and optimism”.

In addition to the LP’s original tracks, a series of ‘Moonwalk’ remixes are set to follow with Paco Osuna, Joseph Capriati, Andrea Oliva, Black Circle, Davide Squillace, Mathias Tanzman, Davi, Furcoat and other contributors tapped for the project.

Seikaly – who retired from professional basketball at the end of the 2000 season and has spent the past few decades building a reputation as a house producer and DJ – started producing ‘Moonwalk’ during lockdown, which gave him “the opportunity to have time to dedicate myself completely to music”.

He says that making the album was his way “of travelling beyond the four walls of the studio to a world where only music mattered, and – being in a global lockdown – to be able to create alternate worlds of freedom, cheer up the soul through a nice, driving groove and create melodies to enliven the heart… ‘Moonwalk’ is a very personal way of saying that music is the best way to nurture the soul”.

The Miami-based Lebanese-American champion released his first EP, ‘House Calls’, in 2010 and launched his own label, Stride, in 2019.
