Roland updates TR-8S firmware to add FM synth, new FX, more

News

Roland has updated its AIRA TR-8S drum machine to add an FM synth, new FX features, a new reload function and more. The FM synthesis engine allows users to play a fully-functioning FM synth via external MIDI or via the sequencer, and users can use the morph control to shape the tones which can also be recorded and committed to the sequencer. Depth, ratio and feedback can all be automated, leading to wild and wacky FM sounds.

There’s also some new FX functionality, with Saturator, Freq Shift, Ring Mod and Spread being added to the existing effects. Their parameters can also be automated across the 16-step sequencer. A new reload function lets you quickly return sounds to their stored states so you can go crazy manipulating sounds in a live or studio performance environment then quickly return them to their default.

Version 2.0 is available now and is free to download.
