Pretty Girl shares ‘fabric presents’ mix with new single ‘Hahaha’: Listen
Pretty Girl is the latest artist to join the ‘fabric presents’ mix roster.
Out now via fabric Records, the Melbourne-born, London-based producer and DJ’s house and garage-focused mix features tracks from Palms Trax, Sleep D, RONA, Otik, Lyric, Tom VR, Swim and more. It’s described as a “love letter to the dancefloor, to her influences on two continents, and to the emotional resonance of great club music”.
Two tracks produced by the artist herself are also featured, ‘Innadream’ and ‘Hahaha’.
“Midnight, October 9 2024, I woke abruptly from a dream where I had made the best song I’d ever heard, and sleepily recorded the melody into my phone,” she said of ‘Innadream’. “Months later, when I was preparing my singles for the fabric presents album, I finally found a place for that melody — in a simple, chord-driven club demo. When I got the five-syllable phrase ‘re-animate me,’ it was all over.”
Completed in just a week, the track reflects a turning point in Pretty Girl’s writing: “It came from the desire to wake up and smell the roses, and appreciate the good (and beautiful) parts of life”.
Speaking about ‘Hahaha’, she shared: “Over New Year’s I was listening to lots of early-mid 2000s electro and was captivated by the powerful synth lines that defined that era. I do make a lot of left-field electronic music that generally gets labelled as ’emotional’, or ‘ethereal’, so when I get to make a straight-up banger it’s a lot of fun. I think I showed a different side in ‘Hahaha’; it was really fun to let go of any restraint and focus on the song just being as big and fun as possible.”
