Premiere: Zequenx ‘Retrograde’
Indian label Qilla Records is celebrating 100 releases with new compilation, ‘Chakravyūh’, out next week. Have an exclusive first listen to Zequenx’s contribution, ‘Retrograde’, below.
Named after a spinning wheel in Sanskrit, the label’s centennial release pays homage to a decade of nurturing and advancing India’s burgeoning electronic scene, told through the medium of 35 tracks from across the techno, breaks and ambient spectrum.
Alongside a host of talented pan-Asian names from Temple Rat, Sunju Hargun and Polygonia, to Monophonik, Dotdat and Qilla founder Kohra, ‘Chakravyūh’ spotlights rising European producers including Atomic Moog, Elisa Batti, Fonzo, Human Space Machine, Leo Cologna and more. The contributors are united by a shared proclivity for hypnotic club sounds, which range from the funky and floor-focused through to downright dirgy and deep-listening.
Amongst the many highlights is Zequenx’s ‘Retrograde’. A trance-inducing, psychedelic jam which sees the Kashmir-born, Goa-based producer double down on the acidic textures and hi-def sound design of her recent contribution to Antariksh Records’ charity comp, ‘Deaf Mills’. Other featured artists on ‘Chakravyūh’ include ARTIFVCT, Audio Units, I7HVN, Namhar and many, many more.
Founded by New Delhi-based Kohra in 2011, Qilla Records has blossomed from an inclusive label and booking agency into a full-blown community collective, home to releases from the likes of FILM, SHFT, jay pei, Analog Context and others.
‘Chakravyūh’ is out digitally on 20th May, along with a limited edition double-disc vinyl. Pre-order the compilation here, and have an exclusive first listen to Zequenx’s contribution, ‘Retrograde’, below.
