Premiere: Planetary Assault Systems ‘Desert Races (Luke Slater Reassembly 2025)’

Luke Slater, AKA Planetary Assault Systems, is gearing up to release a new EP, ‘Reassembled’, later this week. Have an exclusive first listen to ‘Desert Races (Luke Slater Reassembly 2025)’ below.

Following on from the fifth volume of his ‘Deep Heet’ series, released last summer, the UK techno don enlists a crew of forward-thinking artists to reimagine key cuts from his discography.

Former Ostgut Ton label mate Len Faki kicks things off with two formidable reworks of ‘Give It Up’, packed with pummelling low ends and plenty of club heft, ahead of a pair of transcendental ‘Surface Noise’ adaptations from Spanish techno titan Oscar Mulero. Elsewhere, Rene Wise dives into deeper, darker territories with his take on Luke Slater’s 2017 track, ‘Raid’, and Berlin-based Chlär reimagines ‘Strange Attractor’ into an eerie techno mover.

Slater himself contributes three closing tracks, building on the muscular rhythms and peak-time intensity of ‘Deep Heet Vol. 5’. ‘Desert Races’ – premiering below – has been transformed into a breakneck club cut, ‘Rip The Keys’ gets a glossy tech house makeover, and Slater plunges into distorted depths on a reimagined ‘Engage Now To Surface’.

“‘Desert Races’ originally was a quick track I wrote in 2018 in about 30 minutes, which quickly became a main track in the live show,” Slater told DJ Mag. “The aim for the 2025 version was to re-capture that live version in the studio with its energy to DJ with. I’m over the moon I can share it with all now.”

‘Reassembled’ is out 28th March via Mote Evolver. Pre-order the EP here, and have an exclusive first listen to ‘Desert Races (Luke Slater Reassembly 2025)’ below.
