Posthumous MC Conrad album, ‘Con*Natural’, announced for January

A posthumous MC Conrad album has been announced. ‘Con*Natural’ is slated for release on the late artist’s own Resonance label in January 2025.

‘Promised Land’, featuring Aquariid, remixed by Japanese producer Makoto and Brazilian drum & bass legend DJ Marky, is the first single to be shared from the album. You can listen to it below.

Makoto collaborated on the album alongside the imprint’s in-house team, and has revealed the LP comprises eight tracks, each of which Conrad – real name Conrad Thompson — “personally worked on” and “was very happy with” prior to his death.

All proceeds from sales of ‘Con*Natural’ will go directly to Thompson’s family and the MC Conrad Foundation. Established earlier this year, the organisation supports young independent artists in their journey through the music industry with guidance and resources.

Starting out as a breakdancer, singer and rapper, Thompson became one of the most iconic names in drum & bass during the 1990s following early breaks on the mic at East London rave Telepathy. A decade-spanning partnership with LTJ Bukem delivered a slew of landmark recordings, including ‘Dreamscape 4’, one of the most sampled tapes in dance music history, alongside landmark mix series ‘Progression Sessions’ and ‘Promised Land’.

By 2010 Thompson had relocated to Birmingham, long-since making a name for himself as a label boss and producer, including projects with the likes of PFM, Adam F, PHD, Total Science, and Zero T. His death was announced on 30th April 2024, trigging an outpouring of tributes and emotion from across the club scene
