Pioneer DJ’s latest rekordbox iOS app allows you to DJ using only your phone

Pioneer DJ has announced a new rekordbox iOS (ver. 4.0) app.

The app is linked with streaming services including SoundCloud and TIDAL (via separate subscriptions) and with the music stored on your device. Playlists are prepared and created on your phone in portrait mode, while landscape mode allows you to use the virtual decks to “mix, scratch, and add effects to the music”.

Access to cloud-based streaming of any music not stored on your device is available for a subscription fee, but you can sync up to 10 tracks with your cloud-based rekordbox library for free with Cloud Library Sync.

The app is free but an in-app subscription “enables a host of more advanced performance features and effects”. Find out more info about the app here and check out the launch video below. rekordbox for Android (ver. 4.0) is also due to launch but no date has been confirmed as yet.

It’s been a busy few months for Pioneer who recently announced a new all-in-one DJ system, the OPUS-QUAD, and a new 4-channel controller, the DJ-FLX10.

Amapiano star Musa Keys was the latest artist to feature in our DJ Mag Originals series, How I DJ, powered by Pioneer DJ. Watch Musa Keys break down his creative use of Beat FX and EQ, as well as sharing tips and tricks on mixing amapiano, in this video.
