Okzharp announces new EP, ‘Outside The Ride’, on Hyperdub
Okzharp has announced a new EP for Hyperdub, ‘Outside The Ride’, which arrives on 5th August.
For this new EP, the London-based, South Africa-born producer combines different percussive elements, including early 2000’s drum & bass, to forge “a new amalgam of speedy music that explores a chimera of South African gqom, turn-of-the-century techstep and footwork”. Check out the EP’s lead single, ‘Fall In Up In The CLK’, below.
Okzharp is no stranger to gqom, having linked up with Durban luminary DJ Lag for a collaborative EP in 2019, ‘Steam Rooms’. Speaking about the release at the time, DJ Lag said, “We were inspired by that moment in the club when things get hazy and bendy and glowy. It has South Durban via South London DNA, so inevitably there’s a heavy kwai-gqom vibe with a grimey funky London twist running through it”.
This month, Hyperdub is due to release Kode9’s first album in seven years, ‘Escapology’. The label also recently released they debut album by 700 Bliss, the collaborative project by Moor Mother and DJ Haram.
