New manifesto for gender equality in music industry, All Things Equal, to launch with IWD event

Manchester-based creative music charity Brighter Sound has teamed up with Manchester promoter Submerge to launch a manifesto for equality in the music industry, All Things Equal.

In launching the manifesto – which you can learn more about in Brighter Sounds’ open letter – an event is scheduled to take place on 8th March, International Women’s Day, at Manchester’s Mayfield Depot, which will feature the premiere of a large-scale, immersive audiovisual installation by Urban Projections (AKA Rebecca Smith) soundtracked by Loraine James, with a spoken word commission by Princess Arinola Adegbite.

The event is free entry, and will also feature DJ sets from Shannen SP and Girls Don’t Sync.

You can pick up a free ticket for the launch event here, and find out more about the work that Brighter Sound is doing via the organisation’s website.

The manifesto outlines five specific areas in which the charity wish to see change in the music industry, namely education, talent development, live music, parenthood and leadership. Brighter Sound has identified specific legislative action that it believes will help instigate long-term and meaningful change within the music industry, and make it a fairer and more equal place for women and people of marginalised genders.
