New creator fund and training programme for young Black artists launched by Voltage Revolution

A new creator fund and training programme for young Black artists has been launched by Voltage Revolution.

Aimed at 18-24 year-olds from London and Glasgow, the initiative will offer access to funding, training, tools and resources necessary to take their creative business to the next level.

60 young Black creatives will be selected for the “holistic training programme,” which is being launched in collaboration with UK racial justice organisation, Do it Now Now and funded by Comic Relief. Participating artists will gain access to creative funding between £100 to £250, as well as bespoke support valued at over £2500 per person.

The Voltage Revolution Creator Fund is split into three fully-funded programmes – The Startup Programme, The Pop-up Market, and The Creator Grant Award – which will run throughout Spring/Summer 2024.

Participants in the Startup Programme will receive a £100 grant towards their creative journey, as well as access to a virtual Creator Weekend, featuring creative workshops and opportunities to connect with industry professionals in the arts and music sector. Students will also take part in two virtual, expert-led masterclasses to elevate their creative journey.

Upon completion of the Startup Programme, participants can showcase their brand, talents and creative expression at Voltage Revolution’s Pop-up Market. Taking place at London’s Hackney Bridge on Saturday 13th April, the event will offer a chance for participants to connect with fellow programme members, as well as build visibility and get their work seen.

Finally, participating artists will have a chance to submit a piece of original creative work (created within the past five years) for judging by Do it Now Now team members, Rebecca Maserow and Bianca Bruce. Five £250 cash grants are up for grabs by participants that demonstrate “intention and meaning” in their work. Find out more about the different programmes on offer here.

Weekly drop-in sessions will also run from 8th to 29th February for those wanting to learn more about the Voltage Revolution Creator Fund and connect with the team. Join every Thursday lunchtime (12:30pm-1:00pm) via this link.

The closing date for applications is 3rd March 2024. Apply via the website here.
