Maral’s new album, ‘Ground Groove’, combines Iranian folk and club music: Listen

Maral has a new album, titled ‘Ground Groove’, out now on Leaving Records. Watch the visual for the latter half of the LP below.

‘Ground Groove’ started as a commission for the 2021 edition of Rewire, where the Iranian-American musician collaborated with artist Brenna Murphy. The music Maral composed for the installation makes up the final four of the LP’s 11 tracks. The visual half has been officially released as a companion to the full audio album.

Her third album, ‘Ground Groove’ features more live instrument recordings than Maral’s previous LPs ‘Push’ and ‘Mahur Club’ from 2020 and ’19, respectively. It develops the LA-based artist’s “folk club” sound, pulling from her sound library of Iranian folk, classical and pop recordings.

Watch the 14-minute visual component of ‘Ground Groove’, featuring the closing four tracks of the album. Check out the album on Bandcamp.
