Leon Vynehall announces new album, ‘In Daytona Yellow’, shares ‘Mirror’s Edge’: Listen
Leon Vynehall has shared details of his third studio album, ‘In Daytona Yellow’.
Set for release on 19th September, the 10-track follow-up to 2021’s ‘Rare, Forever’ will come out via Ooze INC. The new record is said to push his sound into a more traditional songwriting framework, taking influence from ’80s and contemporary avant-pop.
In a statement, Vynehall said: “It’s about the rejection of perfection and embracing vulnerability. I wanted to let go of that pressure – to say goodbye to a former version of myself and move forward.”
‘In Daytona Yellow’ is the first of Vynehall’s records to feature live vocal collaborations, as well as his own vocals and lyricism. Vocalist TYSON and Jeshi are among the featured artists, while POiSON ANNA appears on the album’s lead single, ‘Mirror’s Edge’.
Of the song, Vynehall said: “I made a quip about Roberta Flack’s ‘The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face’ and how it would be an interesting concept to write a song like that, but it’s about yourself. When I put it against the story of the album, I wanted to expand it and explore the duality between ego sex and ego death. Self-loathing and self-love. A narcissism, or, more appropriately, an unfamiliar vanity. Something that feels like it’s too good to be true – fleeting.”

‘In Daytona Yellow’ follows the release in 2022 of Vynehall’s contribution to the ‘fabric Presents’ mix series, which earned the DJ Mag ‘Compilation of the Month‘ stamp for March that year.
