Korg announces new analogue modelling synth, the multi/poly

Korg has announced a new hardware synth called the multi/poly.

As the name suggests, it’s a polyphonic synth based on the classic Korg Mono/Poly, with a maximum of 60 voices across its 37 full-size keys. Korg has gone heavy on the modulation features with the mutli/poly. It offers four envelopes, five LFOs, eight mod processors, motion sequencing for step-sequencing synth parameters, a built-in X/Y effects and modulation control, polyphonic aftertouch, and four dedicated mod knobs that can be assigned to multiple parameters. Overall, there are over 5,500 potential modulation targets per Performance.

In terms of sound, the unit is built on the legacy of the Mono/Poly, with analogue modelling allowing for what Korg calls the best of both worlds. You can “create hardware mashups” between East Coast and West Coast oscillators, as well as wavetable and a range of modelled filters for tone shaping.

An innovative feature called Layer Rotate triggers new program sounds at the press of each key, keeping your sound modulating and moving. As mentioned, motion sequencing allows parameters to be sequenced across the built-in 16-step sequencer. FX wise, the multi/poly is also stacked, with graphic EQs, compressors, ring modulator, multiple types of distortion, flanger, chorus, wah and much more. There are also five types of delay and two types of reverb built-in.

Round back, the multi/poly features a headphone jack, TRS stereo outs MIDI DIN I/O, and a USB B port for MIDI over USB control. The synth also comes with various software from Korg and other brands, as well as a soft carry case.

The Korg multi/poly is available from December 2024 and will cost €949. Find out more of the Korg site or watch the video below to hear it in action.
