Kanye West releases media player that lets users mix stems from ‘DONDA’

News

Kanye West has released a new hardware MP3 player that lets fans customise their listening experience of his new album ‘DONDA’. Using four touch-sensitive ‘faders’ on the new players, users can mix and match different stems from the album, potentially offering a different listening experience every time you press play.

The Donda Stem Player is a portable circular device, with built-in speakers and touch-sensitive faders, Bluetooth connectivity, USB-C port, a headphone jack and 8GB of storage. Interestingly, you can also load your own music onto the Stem Player and it will separate stems, presumably using similar tech to iZotope’s RX and both VirtualDJ and Algoriddim djay’s stem separation features. That means you can technically mix stems from any song in your collection. The player also features haptic feedback and can support files including AIFF AIF FLAC M4A MP3 WAV WAVE AAC ALAC and MP4.

The new player is available to pre-order now for $200. Find out more here.
