Idris Elba announces Hï Ibiza residency
Idris Elba has announced a residency at Hï Ibiza for this season, where he will play weekly from 3rd June to 30th September.
The news marks the actor-DJ’s second summer at the venue, having been a regular in the booth throughout 2019. This time round he joins the Friday lineups, where he will play the Club Room, with electronic music big hitters David Guetta and Morten’s Future Rave event elsewhere in the venue on the same night.
In recent weeks, Hï Ibiza has confirmed a number of major calendar dates, including a nine-date residency for Brazilian DJ and producer ALOK, and the return of UK-based house music institution Defected’s sister party, Glitterbox, each Sunday. Trance legend Armin van Buuren will also play two huge shows at the address in August.
A four-time Golden Globe Best Actor nominee, and one-time winner, Elba shot to fame as the character Stringer Bell in the gritty Baltimore-set crime series ‘The Wire’, subsequently played DCI John Luther in the hit BBC One show ‘Luther’, and was then cast as Nelson Mandela in the biographical flick ‘Mandela: The Long Walk Home’. In 2009, he began making moves in the music world as a DJ — Big Driis or Idris — initially specialising in hip hop and R&B. February 2022 saw Elba reveal plans to “lean away” from the screen to focus on dance music.
