Ibiza club pilot event to take place in Hard Rock Hotel this month

Ibiza’s club pilot event will take place at the Hard Rock Hotel on Friday 25th June, it has been confirmed.

The venue’s flagship party, Children of the 80s, will welcome 2000 of the island’s key workers for a session aimed at testing COVID-19 protocols within nightlife and music settings ahead of clubs being allowed to return en masse.

The Hard Rock Hotel pilot, announced last week, will be free to attend, but everyone in the crowd has to adhere to strict rules for entry. Proof of at least one dose of vaccination, presence of COVID-19 antibodies or a negative PCR test result must be shown on arrival, or revellers won’t be allowed inside. Ticket holders will be tested two weeks after the event, with results analysed to ascertain whether the date contributed to an increase in coronavirus transmission and infections. If the trial is successful, it is hoped  venues could be back in action my mid-July.

The Balearic Government has said it expects nightclub reopenings to come with significant restrictions, though. These include a 3AM curfew to keep in line with the Spanish Ministry of Health, and limitations on dance floor capacities. Unsurprisingly, Abone, the Balearic Business Association, is pushing for 4AM or 6AM closing times.

Studies of pilot events in Germany, the UK and in Spain have suggested music events can be safely reintroduced with additional health measures, although concerns of the new Delta COVID-19 variant may already have scuppered England’s plans for the final stage of reopening on 21st June.
