Hyperdub joins Beggars Music, home of 4AD, XL and Young, in publishing partnership

Hyperdub has entered into a publishing partnership with Beggars Music, Music Week reports.

The publishing arm of British record company Beggars Group, which oversees XL Recordings, Matador, 4AD, Rough Trade Records and Young, will acquire the London-based label’s publishing catalogue, take over the administration, and “work collaboratively” on new, future signings.

The acquisition includes Burial’s entire catalogue, as well as those of artists including founder Kode9, Jessy Lanza, Lee Gamble, OKZharp, Proc Fiskal, Manthe Ribane, Mana and more.

“Both ourselves and the artists on the publishing roster are very excited in starting this new collaboration with the team at Beggars”, Hyperdub Publishing’s Kris Jones told Music Week. “We’re looking forward to pushing our current writers into new spaces and opportunities as well as joining forces with new up and coming creatives to expand the roster.”

Molly O’Brien, head of creative at Beggars Music, added: “We are thrilled to be in business with Hyperdub, one of the most iconic and influential electronic music labels of our time. We feel a kinship in their approach to nurturing truly unique and groundbreaking talent and feel that the Hyperdub writers will compliment the Beggars Music roster perfectly, while occupying a distinct space.”

This publishing shift comes as the legendary London label celebrates its 20th anniversary. There’ll be a fabric takeover this Friday, 15th March, with Ikonika, Cooly G, Nazar, RP Boo, KG, Jessy Lanza and more, plus boss Kode9.

Last month, longtime Hyperdub artist Burial released ‘Dreamfear / Boy Sent From Above‘ on Beggars’ XL Recordings. It was his first solo record not released on Kode9’s storied imprint.

Hyperdub’s first release of 2024 will land this Friday: footwork producer Heavee’s debut LP for the label called ‘Unleash‘. Last year, it released new music by Loraine James, DJ Haram, Jessy Lanza, Lee Gamble and Fatima Al Qadiri, as well as a collaborative album by Lila Tirando a Violeta and Sin Maldita

In 2021, Beggars Group and Ninja Tune announced short-and long-term plans to become carbon negative
