Gorillaz share statement on systemic racism: “White supremacy must end”

News

Gorillaz have shared a statement on systematic racism.

The Damon Albarn-fronted project, comprised of members 2-D, Murdoc, Noodle, and Russel, shared the statement addressing systematic racism via Instagram, in response to the death of George Floyd.

“Gorillaz are enraged at the death of George Floyd and many before him at the hands of systemic racism and police brutality,” the statement read. “It’s time to be the change and play an active part in the fight for justice and equality.”

George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man from Minnesota, was killed by a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, on Monday 25th May. Footage of the arrest shows Chauvin kneeling on Floyd’s neck for nine minutes, ignoring him as he repeatedly pleads, “I can’t breathe”.

See the full statement from Gorillaz below.

Earlier this month, Jay-Z issued a statement calling on politicans to bring those responsible for the death of George Floyd to justice.
